Politics and the Italian referendum

A political figure was very active in the #iodicono campaign of the 2016 Italian Referendum.

He contacted us to get the pulse of the situation online, to compare it to the exit poll and the interviews with the voters.

He had many questions, in particular:

  • How visible was the campaign for the “NO” compared to that of the “YES”?
  • How much was people talking about him and the other politicians of the same party?
  • What did people talk about and what was the sentiment?

We monitored the conversations on the subject continuously throughout the campaign. Every week we sent to the client updated reports with the hot topics in the last days, the sentiment about the politicians of his party and the opposing ones, and a summary of the comparison between the “no” and the “yes”.

Thanks to these weekly reports, the politician had the pulse of public opinion online and the most heated issues, as well as the vision on the campaign as a whole and its reputation.

And you know what? In the end, the visibility of the NO that we had detected was in fact 75% against 25% for the YES… which was actually verified by the results of the referendum!
